Luxury cycling holidays combine exceptional riding with high-end accommodation, great food and seamless support, creating cycling trips that feel as satisfying off the bike as they do on it.
Whether you are looking for a fully supported guided tour with pro-level service, a food-and-wine-focused escape or a more immersive cultural tour, these cycling trips go beyond simply getting from A to B. They are designed to balance riding with relaxation, atmosphere and a strong sense of place, often in some of the most beautiful regions in the world.
At Epic Road Rides, we have spent years exploring cycling destinations and working closely with trusted tour operators. While we (sadly!) have not personally taken every trip featured here, we have spoken in detail with the teams behind them to understand how their tours are designed, who they are best suited to and what kind of experience you can expect.
This is not an exhaustive list of luxury cycling holidays. Instead, it is a carefully curated selection of standout trips, chosen for the quality of the riding, the overall experience and how well they showcase different destinations on two wheels. It includes well-known names in the industry but also lesser known tour operators that we think offer something special.
Here, we share our pick of the best luxury cycling tours:
- Alentejo, Portugal with inGamba (based in Estremoz): Best for quiet luxury road cycling through vineyards, cork forests and uncrowded countryside.
- Luxury Lakes and Vineyards, Italy with Italy Bike Tours (Lake Garda, Lake Iseo and Lake Como): Best for scenic, food-and-wine-focused riding with a relaxed luxury feel.
- Andalucia, Spain with Sierra Sports & Tours (Sierra Nevada, Ronda and Grazalema regions): Best for big mountain riding with a personalised, locally guided experience.
- Valleys and Volcanoes, Japan with Bike Tour Japan (north of Tokyo, around Kiryu and Ashikaga): Best for culturally immersive cycling with diverse riding options.
- New York, USA with Hudson Valley Detours (based in Saugerties, north of NYC): Best for relaxed cycling paired with boutique luxury and wellness.

We’ve worked with all of the bike tour operators featured in this article over the years (there are links to our interviews with them in the relevant section). We have chosen to include them in this article because the luxury cycling experiences they offer are ones we’d suggest to a friend, or book ourselves, if we were going on a luxury cycling holiday.

1. Alentejo, Portugal with inGamba
Best for quiet luxury road cycling through vineyards, cork forests and uncrowded countryside.

Key information
Route: Centre-based riding from Estremoz in Portugal’s Alentejo region, with loop rides to places such as Vila Viçosa, Redondo, Veiros, Évora Monte and Sousel.
Terrain: Quiet rolling roads through plains, vineyards, cork oak forests and olive groves, with steady rather than mountainous climbing.
Difficulty: Moderate. Daily distances range from around 33 to 85 kilometres, with enough elevation to feel enjoyable without being extreme.
Highlights: Whitewashed hill towns, marble villages, cork forests, vineyards, olive groves, local wines and deeply rural roads with very little traffic.
Logistics: Start and finish in Lisbon, with transfers included; this is a fully supported luxury guided tour based in a boutique hotel in Estremoz.
Best time to visit: Spring and autumn are ideal, when temperatures are more comfortable and the landscapes are at their best.
The riding
This is road riding of the quiet, immersive kind, set in one of Portugal’s least hurried and least crowded regions. From the base in Estremoz, the cycling routes roll out along serene roads through vineyards, cork oak forests, olive groves and wide-open plains, linking a series of historic Alentejo towns and villages.
The terrain is consistently undulating rather than mountainous, with steady climbing spread across the week and no single day that feels brutally hard. What stands out is the pace of the riding. These are not frantic roads or headline climbs, but beautifully judged loop rides where the scenery, the silence and the sense of space are a huge part of the appeal.
Distances build sensibly through the week, and the reward is a style of riding that feels smooth, scenic and deeply connected to the landscape. It is ideal for riders who enjoy covering meaningful distance without the pressure of extreme gradients.
What we love
The luxury here feels understated but extremely well judged. Alentejo itself is all about space, calm and authenticity, and inGamba elevates that with a boutique base in Estremoz, pro-level support and the kind of attention to detail that lets you focus entirely on riding and recovery.
We also love the contrast between the region’s simplicity and attention to detail inGamba provides – quiet roads, beautiful food and wine, and a level of care that makes the whole trip feel special.
What else they offer
inGamba runs luxury cycling tours across some of Europe’s most iconic riding destinations, including Tuscany, the Dolomites, Portugal, Spain, France and Germany, as well as trips inspired by professional race routes. Across all of them, the focus is on pro-level support, outstanding hospitality and carefully planned cycling experiences.

2. Luxury Lakes And Vineyards, Italy with Italy Bike Tours
Best for scenic, food-and-wine-focused riding with a relaxed luxury feel.

Key information
Route: Guided ride linking Lake Garda, Lake Iseo and Lake Como, with rides based around Desenzano, Franciacorta, the Adda River and Bellagio.
Terrain: Mostly flat to rolling, with manageable climbs, lakeside roads, vineyard routes and scenic cycle paths.
Difficulty: Easy to moderate. Daily rides are designed to be enjoyable for a wide range of riders, with options for stronger cyclists such as the climb to Madonna del Ghisallo.
Highlights: Lake Garda shoreline riding, a Lake Iseo loop, Franciacorta vineyards, the Adda River cycle path, Bellagio and optional Ghisallo climbing.
Logistics: Start near Lake Garda and finish at Lake Como, with transfers, support, premium bikes and boutique accommodation included throughout.
Best time to visit: Spring and early autumn are ideal, with warm weather, quieter roads and clear lake views.
The riding
The tour focuses on scenic riding through three of northern Italy’s most celebrated lake regions, designed to showcase the best of the area without turning every day into a test. The routes mix gentle lakeside roads, vineyard lanes and traffic-free cycle paths, with enough undulation to keep the riding engaging but never oppressive.
Around Lake Garda, the emphasis is on easy elegance – smooth roads, pretty towns and a relaxed start. Lake Iseo adds quieter roads and the lovely contrast of Franciacorta’s rolling wine country, while the final stage towards Lake Como brings a slightly more dramatic backdrop.
Daily distances are moderate, and the overall feel is accessible rather than intense, though stronger riders can add more challenge, notably with the optional climb to Madonna del Ghisallo. It is a route built around beauty, flow and variety, where the scenery changes constantly and the riding stays enjoyable throughout.
What we love
This trip leans naturally into luxury because the region itself does. The lakes bring elegance almost by default, but Italy Bike Tours builds on that with luxury accommodation, excellent bikes, boat trips, wine and coffee tastings, and the sort of seamless support that keeps everything feeling easy.
We also love the way the riding matches the experience – refined rather than relentless, with enough challenge to feel satisfying but plenty of space for good food, great views and the pleasures of travelling well.
What else they offer
Italy Bike Tours runs a broad range of guided cycling holidays across Italy, from relaxed lake and wellness trips to luxury food-and-wine tours, more adventurous gravel and e-bike escapes, and serious Alpine challenges. They also offer event-based cycling tour packages around major rides and races, plus selected luxury cycling tours beyond Italy in destinations such as Slovenia, Austria, France and Spain.

3. Andalucia, Spain with Sierra Sports and Tours
Best for big mountain riding with a personalised, locally guided cycling experience.

Famous Alhambra palace, Granada, Spain.
Key information
Route: Guided road cycling in Andalucia, typically centred on major riding areas such as Ronda, Grazalema, Granada, Cazorla and other mountain or coastal regions, depending on the itinerary.
Terrain: Challenging overall, with long climbs, rolling mountain roads, high-altitude routes and some easier valley or coastal sections.
Difficulty: Moderate to challenging. Andalucia is best suited to riders comfortable with regular climbing, though e-bikes broaden the appeal.
Highlights: Iconic climbs such as Pico de Veleta and Puerto de las Palomas, whitewashed villages, dramatic mountain scenery, Moorish cities, excellent food and very quiet roads.
Logistics: Tours are guided and highly customisable, with routes, accommodation and support tailored to the group; Malaga, Granada and Seville are key gateways depending on the itinerary.
Best time to visit: Spring and autumn are ideal; summer can be extremely hot, especially away from the coast.
The riding
Cycling in Andalucia is all about big scenery. The riding tends to be hilly even before you reach the region’s major climbs, with quiet mountain roads and rolling olive-covered valleys linking whitewashed villages and dramatic viewpoints.
Depending on the itinerary, you might be riding in the Sierra Nevada, the Ronda and Grazalema mountains or the more remote roads around Cazorla, but the common thread is a sense of scale and variety. This is not gentle cruising country, though there are more moderate routes and coastal or valley sections to break things up.
What makes the riding special is the combination of smooth roads, light traffic and a constant sense of place, whether that comes from Moorish architecture, high mountain panoramas or the sudden appearance of a tiny village café. It suits riders who enjoy climbing and want every day to feel distinct, immersive and memorable.
What we love
This isn’t luxury in terms of glossy websites or (necessarily) five star accommodation. Sierra’s tours offer luxury in a more personal, thoughtful sense – what stands out here is the level of care behind the cycling experience. The company is small and owner-operated, so the person you speak to when you book is the same person that will be involved in delivering the trip. Routes are clearly shaped by deep local expertise, while the accommodation, food and overall flow of the trip are incredibly carefully chosen and tailored to the needs of the relevant group.
We also like the flexibility: Sierra Sports & Tours is able to tailor luxury cycling tours closely to the group, which gives the whole experience a more personal, high-end feel. It’s luxury expressed through detail, local insight and hospitality.
What else they offer
Sierra Sports & Tours runs a wide range of cycling holidays across Europe, with trips in Spain, France, Italy and Belgium. Their programme includes both road and gravel tours, from iconic mountain routes to quieter, lesser-known regions, alongside fully customised itineraries for private groups. With a permanent base in Europe, they offer a long riding season and the flexibility to tailor trips to different riding styles, abilities and budgets.

4. Valleys and Volcanoes, Japan with Bike Tour Japan
Best for culturally immersive cycling with diverse riding options.

Key information
Route: Guided loop through Japan’s Kita Kanto region, based around Kiryu and Ashikaga, exploring the Watarase and Tone river valleys with climbs into surrounding mountains and volcanoes.
Terrain: A mix of quiet valley roads, car-free river paths and steady mountain trails, with options for bigger climbs including Mt Akagi.
Difficulty: Moderate. Daily distances of around 35–60 kilometres with 200–700 metres of climbing, plus optional harder rides.
Highlights: Traditional ryokan stays, onsen hot springs, temples and shrines, volcanic landscapes, seasonal cherry blossoms or autumn colours and exceptional local food.
Logistics: Start/finish near Ashikaga/Kiryu (easy access from Tokyo); fully guided with accommodation, meals and support included.
Best time to visit: Spring (cherry blossoms) and autumn (fall colours) are the standout seasons.
The riding
This trip focuses on a softer, more immersive side of cycling in Japan, where the riding flows through river valleys, small towns and forested hills rather than chasing constant big climbs. Routes follow beautifully paved, low-traffic roads, that wind gently into the mountains.
Climbs are steady rather than extreme, making the riding approachable for a wide range of cyclists, with the option to step things up on certain days, including a longer trip up Mt Akagi for those who want a bigger challenge. Distances are manageable, leaving time to stop at temples, explore historic towns or simply take in the natural scenery.
What really defines the riding is the atmosphere: calm, uncrowded and deeply scenic, with a sense of moving through everyday rural Japan rather than following a tourist trail.
What we love
This feels like a genuinely immersive way to experience Japan. Staying in traditional ryokans, soaking in onsen baths after each ride and evening meals that resemble works of art adds a cultural depth that goes far beyond the cycling itself.
We also love how achievable the riding is. Bike Tour Japan delivers the landscapes and sense of adventure Japan is known for, but in a format that feels relaxed, with flexibility built in for stronger riders.
Above all, it is the contrast that stands out: one moment you are riding quiet valley paths, the next you are climbing towards a volcano or visiting a centuries-old shrine, with each day offering something slightly different.
What else they offer
Bike Tour Japan runs a range of guided and self-guided cycling tours across the country, from accessible coastal routes like the Shimanami Kaido to more challenging mountain itineraries in regions such as Nagano and the Japanese Alps. Their focus is on small-group trips that combine excellent riding with cultural experiences, using local knowledge to showcase quieter roads, traditional accommodation and authentic regional food.

5. New York, USA with Hudson Valley Detours
Best for relaxed cycling paired with boutique luxury and wellness.

Key information
Route: Guided rides based in Saugerties, with routes exploring the Hudson Valley’s rail trails, riverside roads and towns such as Woodstock, Rhinebeck, Hudson and Catskill.
Terrain: Mostly gentle to rolling, with a mix of paved bike paths, quiet country roads and some short climbs.
Difficulty: Easy to moderate. Daily routes can be tailored, with options around 25, 50 or 75 miles (around 40, 80 or 120 kilometres), plus e-bikes available.
Highlights: Walkway Over the Hudson, Ashokan Reservoir, Woodstock, historic small towns, Hudson River views and a sunset cruise to Saugerties Lighthouse.
Logistics: Centre-based luxury retreat at Diamond Mills in Saugerties, with guided rides, dining, spa access and support included; easily reached from New York City.
Best time to visit: Spring and autumn are ideal, especially for blossom or fall foliage; summer is also possible but can be warmer.
The riding
This is relaxed, scenic riding in a region that feels surprisingly rural given its proximity to New York City. Routes mix paved rail trails, river crossings and quiet country roads, creating a style of riding that is varied without being overly demanding. Much of the terrain is gently rolling, with flatter stretches along the Hudson and on the dedicated bike trails, while some inland roads add a little more shape and challenge.
The riding is designed to be flexible, with daily mileage options that can suit different abilities and goals, from shorter scenic outings to longer days linking together several of the valley’s best-known highlights.
What stands out is the combination of accessibility and atmosphere: you can spend the day riding through wooded lanes, farmland and historic towns, with very little of the stress often associated with riding close to a major city. It is more about enjoyment, flow and discovery than hard physical effort.
What we love
This feels luxurious in a very rounded way. The riding itself is enjoyable and beautifully varied, but the real appeal lies in how it is paired with a boutique base at Diamond Mills, strong guiding, thoughtful dining and proper recovery options at the spa.
We also love the contrast: one moment you are riding peaceful trails and backroads, the next you are back at a high-end accommodation of Hudson Valley Detours with a balcony over the falls, farm-to-table food and a sunset cruise on the Hudson.
What else they offer
Rather than offering a wide menu of trips in different destinations, Hudson Valley Detours focuses on doing one thing very well: curated cycling and wellness stays in the Hudson Valley, built around guided riding, boutique luxury and seamless ride support.
