Palazzo del Capitano, Tuscany

The Palazzo del Capitano hotel is a four-star property in San Quirico d’Orica. It’s situated just inside the city walls, so you’ve got easy access to the surrounding countryside and cycle routes. It’s a 15th-Century building with sumptuous rooms, a quaint terrace where you can unwind, and a large garden with its own vegetable patches – with the produce used in the hotel’s own Michelin-recommended restaurant.

While the hotel’s own cycle amenities are limited, it is directly adjacent to a bike store that offers storage, rental and a workshop space if you need to carry our repairs. It has a wash station too. If you prefer, you can arrange luxury biking tours directly with the hotel, and enjoy rental included in the price.

Cap Rocat, Cala Blava 

Set in a quiet bay south of Palma, the Cap Rocat is a former military fortress near Cala Blava that offers five-star luxury accommodation. It’s a small hotel (just 29 rooms) but it has a wealth of features, including an outdoor pool, sun terrace and spa. There’s tennis courts and a fitness centre with a personal trainer, with outdoor yoga and pilates classes. There are two restaurants on-site serving fresh Mediterranean and worldwide cuisine.

Cycle hire can be arranged through the hotel with local companies – a wide range of bikes are available and they’ll be dropped off at the hotel for your stay, and collected at the end. Storage is available on-site during your stay.

Hotel Suite Villa Maria, Costa Adeje

The Hotel Suite Villa Maria is a five-star hotel complex in south-west Tenerife, just 1km from La Caleta de Adeje Beach. It’s a breathtaking property, offering individual villas with furnished terraces and amazing views. Villas have either a hot tub or private pool, their own kitchen, and bathrooms with hydromassage showers. A buffet breakfast is available while the a la carte restaurant offers traditional cuisine.

There are plenty more cycle hotels in Gran Canaria to choose from, too – so if you need something a little less expensive or you want to be away from the bustle of Maspalomas, you have a lot of choices.

Salobre Hotel Resort & Serenity, Maspalomas

The Salobre Hotel offers fantastic five-star accommodation set within the Salobre Golf Course, around 15 minutes drive from Maspalomas. Rooms offer terrace views of the mountains, which you can then set off to explore by bike. When winding down, you’ll be able to enjoy 7 outdoor swimming pools, a wellness centre, and a gym. There are three restaurants to choose from as well.

You’ll be able to arrange bike rental through the hotel and there’s a storage area with wash station and repair tools for guests to use. Cycling guests even get a special gift on arrival. However, it’s important to look at the map and note that road access is quite limited; you might end up needing to hire a car to get to the start of your rides, if you want to enjoy road biking around the island. For those that prefer riding on fatter tyres, here are mountain trails you can access from the hotel.

Hotel Santa Marta, Lloret de Mar

The Hotel Santa Marta in Lloret de Mar is is a gorgeous five-star resort that sits on the edge of the Santa Cristina beach but is surrounded by seven hectares of woodland, offering a unique setting that’s truly picturesque. Rooms are available with either a sea view or a woodland view. There are four dining options and a fantastic wellness spa offering a huge range of treatment options.

This luxury hotel is also great for cycling breaks. There’s an on-site Cycling Centre with a storage garage and separate workshop and washing areas, including the tools you’ll need for basic repairs. There’s also a large gym for stretching off any aches at the end of the day.

  • We love: The setting – getting both woodland and beach scenery is incredible.
  • Be aware: The hotel doesn’t advertise bike hire, but it is available nearby.
  • Best for: A unique luxury experience with fantastic cycling trails nearby.

Luxury bike hotels in Denmark

Finally, while Denmark might not be your first thought when looking for a luxury bike hotel for a relaxing getaway, it is home to one of the best bike-friendly cities in the world: Copenhagen.

If you aren’t looking for the famous mountains and coastal routes of the rest of Europe, and prefer a more urban break, a Copenhagen cycling break could be perfect.

Nobis Hotel, Copenhagen

The Nobis Hotel is a beautifully appointed five-star hotel right in the centre of Copenhagen. The early-19th Century exterior belies some fantastic contemporary accommodation within, with designer furniture, exceptionally spacious rooms and bathrooms, and supremely comfortable beds. The hotel has a fitness centre with sauna, and an incredible restaurant serving seasonal produce.

The hotel does have bike rental available, subject to availability, costing DKK250 per day (around £30 per day). If you arrange your own bike hire (there are bike stores within walking distance) then you can also use the outdoor rack to secure it.

  • We love: The stylish features throughout the hotel.
  • Be aware: The bikes for hire are lightweight city bikes – if you want to get out on the roads, consider hiring a road bike elsewhere.
  • Best for: A relaxed cycling break exploring the canals and quaint streets of Copenhagen.
