Spain cycling tours come in every shape and size; choosing can be tricky.

To make this selection, we’ve leaned on real experience: I rode the Camino de Santiago with Saddle Skedaddle in 2018. Since then, the team at Epic Road Rides has interviewed all of the tour operators featured in this article to understand what great support looks like on a cycling holiday in Spain.

Our aim in this article is not to list everyone who offers cycling holidays in Spain; rather, it highlights companies we know and would suggest to a friend. They’re typically smaller outfits you might not have heard of before; we try to work with businesses that operate their own tours because we find they’re more adaptable and present on the ground.

Here, we share our pick of the best  Spain cycling tours:

So think of this as a great place to begin planning for your cycling trips in Spain. We include what to expect on specific itineraries, what we like about each tour operator featured and what else they offer.

We hope this helps reduce your research time!

We’ve worked with all of the bike tour operators featured in this article over the years (there are links to our interviews with them in the relevant section). We have chosen to include them in this article because the Spain cycling experiences they offer are ones we’d suggest to a friend, or book ourselves, if we were heading to Spain.

Mallorca and Girona cycling holidays

Be aware! You won’t see Mallorca or Girona tours in the list below; that’s because we’ve covered them in dedicated guides instead. If you’re weighing up where to ride in these popular Spanish destinations, start here:

1. Camino Francés in Northern Spain with Saddle Skedaddle

Best for mixed-surface riding between medieval towns and ancient granite paths.

The riding

The Camino Francés runs 800 kilometres from St-Jean-Pied-de-Port to Santiago de Compostela. On this trip, Saddle Skedaddle covers the final 200 kilometres from Ponferrada, staying close to the historic trail. If you want to try cycling in Northern Spain, this is a classic.

Surfaces shift between tracks, lanes, back roads and ancient granite corredoiras (paths), with yellow arrows keeping you on course. Daily distances of 48–80 kilometres suit experienced leisure riders on gravel bikes, hardtails or e-MTBs.

You’ll pass medieval towns and Gothic churches on a culturally rewarding route recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Skedaddle’s support keeps logistics smooth so you can focus on the highlights of this iconic journey, including riding up to the historic mountain village of O Cebreiro, refuelling on fresh Galician seafood with a delicious glass of Albariño, and soaking up Santiago’s vibrant main square.

What we like

Since 2003, Saddle Skedaddle has built an extensive Camino line-up, with a variety of options to suit your preferred type of cycling and fitness ability. You can also choose small-group guided cycling holidays or go self-guided for more independence and flexibility. Every trip includes accommodation, luggage storage/transfers, GPX navigation and support.

Self-guided riders receive basic tools and an emergency number for mechanical assistance. Guided holidays add picnic lunches, ride leaders and a support vehicle, with the option to leave a bag in the van.

E-bikes are offered on both the Camino Primitivo and Camino de Santiago, with suitable e-bike routes for riders who prefer e-bike holidays. If you have particular requirements, Saddle Skedaddle can also arrange bespoke trips.

What else they offer

Saddle Skedaddle has established bases in the UK, Spain and Italy and almost 30 years’ know-how. The line-up covers road, gravel, leisure, MTB, family and bike-and-boat, offered as guided small-group, self-guided or tailor-made trips.

There’s something for everyone, from beginners to riders chasing end-to-end challenges like LEJOG and St Malo to Nice. They even offer far-flung cycling adventures in places like Mongolia, Chile and Costa Rica, for those after something a little different.

2. Cycling Andalucia with Sierra Sports & Tours

Best for famous Vuelta climbs and quieter roads across diverse Andalucian landscapes.

Cycling Cazorla National Park and the final switchbacks on the ‘Puerto de Tiscar’ climb

The riding

Andalucia is one of Spain’s most diverse cycling regions, and Sierra Sports & Tours know exactly how to help cyclists make sense of it.

From the high-altitude roads of the Sierra Nevada to the whitewashed villages around Ronda and Grazalema, the region combines major mountain riding with quieter rolling terrain, Mediterranean coastline and even desert-style landscapes around Almeria. You can tackle famous Vuelta climbs including Pico de Veleta, Puerto de las Palomas, Haza Llana, Calar Alto and Peñas Blancas, alongside lesser-known roads through olive groves, reservoirs and natural parks.

The riding here is rarely flat. Even shorter routes can quickly build significant elevation gain, while the Sierra Nevada offers some of Europe’s biggest continuous climbs. Pico de Veleta climbs to more than 3,000 metres altitude and is often considered one of Europe’s most iconic long mountain climbs.

Andalucia also suits gravel riders. Sierra Sports & Tours run gravel tours through the Cazorla region, while the Badlands ultra gravel race has helped establish Andalucia as one of Europe’s leading gravel destinations.

What we like

Sierra Sports & Tours have been running cycling tours in Andalucia since 2011 and have built deep local expertise across southern Spain.

Paul D’Andrea and the team combine practical route knowledge with on-the-ground logistical support, including accommodation, transfers, support vehicles, mechanical assistance and detailed ride planning. Having a base in Andalucia itself means they understand the riding conditions, seasonal weather patterns and quieter backroads that many visitors would otherwise miss.

We also like the breadth of riding they offer. Rather than focusing on one base, Sierra Sports & Tours work across several Andalucian regions, including Granada, Ronda, Grazalema, Cazorla, Renaissance Spain and Almeria.

What else they offer

Sierra Sports & Tours offer both guided and self-guided cycling holidays in Andalucia, with road and gravel options available.

Current itineraries include Granada Vuelta Peaks, Ronda and Almuñecar, Cazorla self-guided road tours and guided gravel tours through Cazorla National Park. Private departures and bespoke Andalucia itineraries can also be arranged for riders wanting a more customised experience.

Alongside Andalucia, Sierra Sports & Tours also run cycling tours in other Spanish destinations and wider European regions.

Velez de Benaudalla, in Granada, Spain

The riding

This week-long tour with Cycle Sierra Nevada is built for riders who want long efforts and serious elevation.

Based in Vélez de Benaudalla between the Sierra Nevada and the Costa Tropical, you’ll make the most of a region that boasts 320 sunny days a year and smooth asphalt built for climbing.

Expect a smart progression: a gentle opener, then medium and long stages, a big climbing day, an optional recovery spin to the beach, and a steady finale. During this cycling holiday in Sierra Nevada Spain, you’ll ride local greats like Los Guájares and Haza del Lino on pro-frequented roads with big views!

What we like

Cycle Sierra Nevada run fully guided holidays and training camps in the Sierra Nevada from their fixed base in Vélez de Benaudalla, about an hour from Málaga, Granada and Almería airports.

They launched their Classic Climbs week in 2020 and have refined it ever since.

Every ride rolls out from the door, so time isn’t lost on transfers. The local road network is extensive, letting the guides change routes daily and matching efforts to your fitness. It’s a tight, rider-first operation with clear logistics and coaching-minded support, spot on for cycling in the Sierra Nevada, Spain.

What else they offer

Cycle Sierra Nevada is focused on the Sierra Nevada region of southern Spain. However, in the event of bad weather, they also cover the Costa Tropical region located nearby.

They offer a range of formats to match goals and ability: weekend tasters, long weekends and full week programmes. You can choose guided holidays, training camps or a yoga-and-cycling mix for active recovery.
