Portugal is a cyclist’s dream.

This long thin country encompasses a huge variety of landscapes and climates and some exceptional riding, but what’s universally true is that nowhere in Portugal is as famous as it should be amongst cyclists.

The country might have found it hard to get a look in compared with Spain, its bigger neighbour, but perhaps things are beginning to change.

Annual events such as the Tour of the Algarve are extremely popular with pro riders and are becoming better know amongst amateur cyclists looking for some winter sun. The N2 route that runs from end to end, is also quietly gaining a reputation as one of the must-do long distance routes in Europe.

We’re delighted to bring you this guide to cycling the Algarve – and this article on where to stay – and hope to share guides to other parts of Portugal in the coming months.
