Iberostar Selection Lagos Algarve

The Iberostar Selection Lagos Algarve is a five-star hotel in Lagos offering contemporary accommodation with a huge range of facilities. Guests can enjoy fantastic views out to the coast, as well as an international restaurant, outdoor and indoor pools, and a fitness centre.

The hotel is a great choice for cyclists too – there’s a bike centre on-site with storage, and a workshop if you need to carry out any repairs. Bike hire is available and there are plenty of route recommendations for the nearby hills.

Cascade Wellness Resort

The Cascade Wellness Resort is a beautiful five-star hotel in Lagos that is popular for guests who want to unwind and those who wish to train. While it’s not necessarily a cycling team resort, it has been used by professional football teams, including the Dutch and Welsh national football teams, indicating the quality of the facilities on-site.

The hotel welcomes cyclists, and while it doesn’t offer bike rental directly, they do have close partnerships with local bike stores and can arrange premium bike rental for guests. They also have areas inside the hotel where you’ll be able to store your bike, although you’ll need your own tools if any repair work is needed.

The hotel has pedigree for cycling breaks – for example, Team Emirates used the hotel in January 2023 for a winter training camp. AP Adriana Beach Resort

The AP Adriana Beach Resort is just 300 metres from the beach in Albufeira, and is surrounded by beautiful gardens for a really picturesque setting. The Hotel Zodiaco in Quarteira is a bright, simple three-star hotel with an outdoor pool. It’s basic accommodation, but it’s clean and welcoming, with a hotel bar and snack bar and plenty of local restaurants close by for dinner. Families are welcome but facilities are limited, with the pool and a billiards table providing the entertainment.

There aren’t a wealth of facilities for cyclists, but you can hire bikes and there is secure parking for bicycles available. There are nearby bicycle stores if you need help with repairs or maintenance. This hotel doesn’t try to provide everything for a training camp, but is great for a cheap and simple Algarve biking holiday.

Monchique Resort

Bike hotels in eastern Algarve (Tavira)

The eastern Algarve area around Tavira offers some very scenic flat coastal routes, with amazing views across the sea and the long, stretching beaches. Head inland and you’ll find some hilly challenges too.

Tavira is a vibrant and historic city that serves as a good base, and from here you can even cycle towards Spain if you prefer!

Cyclists can enjoy all of the leisure facilities at the hotel, along with storage for their bikes in between rides. The hotel can also provide special meal requests including packed lunches if you want to plan a longer ride away from the hotel for a day.

Vila Gale Tavira

The Vila Gale Tavira is a relaxed four-star hotel near the centre of Tavira and within easy reach of the coast. It has its own restaurant serving Portuguese and international cuisine, and a health club with gym, indoor pool and Turkish bath. There’s a large outdoor pool as well, and a kids club for families.

The hotel has daily bicycle hire, along with laundry services for any riders who want to get their gear cleaned before the next day’s ride. A buffet breakfast is available early too, for anyone who wants to make an early start exploring the nearby scenery.

  • We love: The location – a short walk to Tavira’s shops and restaurants, easy access for the beach and plenty of great cycling routes on the doorstep.
  • Be aware: The hotel is a little old-fashioned in places but is perfectly comfortable.
  • Best for: A holiday that balances cycling, beach sunbathing and exploration of the local bars and shops.

Golden Club Cabanas

The Golden Club Cabanas resort is situated right amongst the Ria Formosa Natura Park, around a 10 minute drive from Tavira. The three-star accommodation is simple but cosy and there are plenty of facilities onsite to keep everyone entertained, including indoor and outdoor pools, sports courts and playgrounds for children, long with a kids’ club.

The accommodation is made up of self-catered apartments so you can prep your own packed lunches (there’s a SPAR 400 metres away), although the restaurant is also open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, if you prefer. Bike hire is available from the hotel, and a spa offers massages.

  • Be aware: Prices double during summer, but winter cycling breaks are very cheap.
