But sometimes, you just want a big dollop of luxury – and at those times, deciding the luxury hotel comes first and the destination comes second! If that’s the case, this article is perfect for you, because all the hotels are at the luxury end of the market.

The Palazzo del Capitano Hotel in San Quirico d’Orica is a beautiful four-star property just inside the city walls. The 15th-Century building has been fully updated to create comfortable, luxurious rooms, while the hotel has a pretty terrace, a wellness spa, and a large garden with fountains and vegetable patches. There’s a Michelin-recommended restaurant, too, for amazing dining.

Adjacent to the hotel is a bike store offering rentals, bike storage and a space for repairs. There’s a washing station too, and the option to borrow maps. The hotel can also organise bike tours with rental included.

Hotel La Perla is a cosy yet contemporary family-run hotel that dates back to the 18th century. It features The Pinarello Lounge – a room dedicated to cycling with famous bicycles hung on the walls belonging to Nani Pinarello, Bradley Wiggins and other cycling heroes.

The charming Ladin chalet-style bedrooms are spacious and sophisticated with postcard views of the mountains. The hotel features five dining options including a Michelin-star restaurant, as well as a labyrinthine wine cellar with thirty thousand bottles! This simply has to be seen to be believed. Luckily, visits are free of charge. The hotel also features a spa with indoor and outdoor swimming pools, steam room, Turkish bath, sauna and beauty treatments including a unique wine-based treatment. Cyclists can store bicycles in the bike room or you can keep them in your room if you prefer. Afternoon snacks are provided for cyclists.

The Martinhal Sagres Hotel is a stunning five-star resort hotel on the outskirts of Sagres, situated overlooking the beach. The hotel has everything families could need, including five different pools and three restaurants to choose from. It’s great for kids, with indoor and outdoor play areas.

Martinhal is a good base for luxury cycling breaks – there’s an onsite centre that offers rentals (including premium road bikes), and secure storage. You can also rent gear if you need it, while there’s a wash station and workshop for maintenance. Cycle routes are provided including GPX uploads. They run three weekly scheduled tours, which includes a family tour, as well as a mountain bike ride and a road bike tour. These tours can also be booked privately upon request.

The Monchique Resort is a five-star getaway in the Monchique mountain range. It combines inspiration from its natural surroundings with modern touches to create luxurious accommodations and outstanding facilities, including two outdoor pools, an exquisite spa and a choice of restaurants.

It’s a fantastic choice for a climbing cycle holiday with easy access to some challenging but beautiful routes. There’s no cycling centre on-site but secure storage, including CCTV coverage, is available, and there’s a small workshop space if you do need to carry out any quick repairs. Laundry services and bike rental are also available.

The Cascade Wellness Resort is a beautiful five-star hotel in Lagos that is popular for guests who want to unwind and those who wish to train. While it’s not necessarily a cycling team resort, it has been used by professional football teams, including the Dutch and Welsh national football teams, indicating the quality of the facilities on-site.

The hotel welcomes cyclists, and while it doesn’t offer bike rental directly, they do have close partnerships with local bike stores and can arrange premium bike rental for guests. They also have areas inside the hotel where you’ll be able to store your bike, although you’ll need your own tools if any repair work is needed.

Set in a quiet bay south of Palma, the Cap Rocat is a former military fortress near Cala Blava that offers five-star luxury accommodation. It’s a small hotel (just 29 rooms) but it has a wealth of features, including an outdoor pool, sun terrace and spa. There’s tennis courts and a fitness centre with a personal trainer, with outdoor yoga and pilates classes. There are two restaurants on-site serving fresh Mediterranean and worldwide cuisine.

Cycle hire can be arranged through the hotel with local companies – a wide range of bikes are available and they’ll be dropped off at the hotel for your stay, and collected at the end. Storage is available on-site during your stay.

  • We love: The incredible views out over the water from the rock-carved sun terrace – stunning.
  • Be aware: It’s an adults-only hotel. Also, group bookings may be tricky due to the hotel’s size – check availability.
  • Best for: Exploring Mallorca by day, and soaking up the peaceful atmosphere at night.

The Hotel Suite Villa Maria is a five-star hotel complex in south-west Tenerife, just 1km from La Caleta de Adeje Beach. It’s a breathtaking property, offering individual villas with furnished terraces and amazing views. Villas have either a hot tub or private pool, their own kitchen, and bathrooms with hydromassage showers. A buffet breakfast is available while the a la carte restaurant offers traditional cuisine.

Bike rental and repair services are available, along with guided tour options. You can store your bike in your villa for the duration of your stay. The hotel also has the Tenerife Top Training complex next door if you wish to arrange group training meets, with extensive sports facilities for hire.

If you’re looking for a peaceful, five star luxury experience (and you’re not with kids), look no further than the Royal Garden Villas Hotel. It comprises 28 individual luxury villas, each with their own pool, and there are plenty of other luxury facilities to enjoy too. For example the Asian-themed spa with jacuzzi, waterfall, waterbeds, Turkish bath, hydro massage showers and ice fountain.

The hotel has a really tranquil atmosphere and attentive service. There’s an excellent restaurant on-site, or you can make use of restaurants in La Caleta that are just a 20 minute walk away. We asked the hotel whether we could store a road bike in our bedroom and they confirmed that was no problem.

The Salobre Hotel offers fantastic five-star accommodation set within the Salobre Golf Course, around 15 minutes drive from Maspalomas. Rooms offer terrace views of the mountains, which you can then set off to explore by bike. When winding down, you’ll be able to enjoy 7 outdoor swimming pools, a wellness centre, and a gym. There are three restaurants to choose from as well.

You’ll be able to arrange bike rental through the hotel and there’s a storage area with wash station and repair tools for guests to use. Cycling guests even get a special gift on arrival. However, it’s important to look at the map and note that road access is quite limited; you might end up needing to hire a car to get to the start of your rides, if you want to enjoy road biking around the island. For those that prefer riding on fatter tyres, there are mountain trails you can access from the hotel.

La Coquillade is a five-star hotel in Gargas, a stunning area surrounded by the beautiful Provençal countryside. The hotel itself is chic and elegant, but at the same time family-friendly – it has a kids club for entertainment and a whole host of sporting facilities aimed at the whole clan.

Hotel Crillon le Brave is a 5-star hotel that’s situated around seven kilometres west of Bédoin. The Nobis Hotel is a beautifully appointed five-star hotel right in the centre of Copenhagen. The early-19th Century exterior belies some fantastic contemporary accommodation within, with designer furniture, exceptionally spacious rooms and bathrooms, and supremely comfortable beds. The hotel has a fitness centre with sauna, and an incredible restaurant serving seasonal produce.

The hotel does have bike rental available, subject to availability, costing DKK250 per day (around £30 per day). If you arrange your own bike hire (there are bike stores within walking distance) then you can also use the outdoor rack to secure it.

  • Be aware: The bikes for hire are lightweight city bikes – if you want to get out on the roads, consider hiring a road bike elsewhere.
  • Best for: A relaxed cycling break exploring the canals and quaint streets of Copenhagen.
