This cycle route from Maizerets park to Cap Tourmente is a great way to admire the famous Montmorency Falls, one of Québec City’s most impressive natural wonders!

The ride provides views of Orléans Island (also known as Île d’Orléans) and takes you all the way to where the St. Lawrence River finally widens, providing the chance to escape the city for quieter, more rural cycling.

This Québec cycling route has been suggestedC by local cyclist Geneviève Healey. As it is mostly flat, Geneviève thinks it’s a great itinerary to push on the pedals (if you want to!).

Highlights

  • The Maizerets park is a lovely place that is great for family gatherings, or relaxing walks surrounded by birds and ducks.
  • The famous Montmorency Falls are really spectacular. Fun fact: they are 83 metres high and taller than Niagara Falls!
  • The Cap Tourmente National Wildlife Area is beautiful and in spring and autumn thousands of white geese can often be spotted here.

Route notes: Maizerets park to Cap Tourmente

1. Maizerets park to Ange-Gardien : 0 to 18 km

The first part is on a cycling path through the peaceful Maizerets park.

You have a great view of the St-Lawrence rivers, including when it expands, the Orleans’ Island and her beautiful bridge on your right. On your left, the incredible Montmorency falls won’t fail to impress!

2. Ange-Gardien to Cap Tourmente: 18 to 41 km

You will now reach a low traffic rural road, the Royal Avenue, which is totally flat and surrounded by farms on your right and the cliff on your left, until you reach the beautiful Cap Tourmente.

3. Cap Tourmente to Maizerets park: 41 to 91 km

You will loop around a few farms and your view will open take in long fields to the river, where Canada geese come twice a year for their seasonal migration.

Café stops

There is a very well equipped gas station a few kilometres after Montmorency Falls.

There’s also a very cute café in Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré’s town, in front of the immense basilica and Sammie’s creamery.
