Armenia feels raw in the best way. You ride through big, open landscapes that flip quickly from high plateaus to tight river gorges, with ancient monasteries clinging to cliffs and villages where a bakery stop can turn into a full-on feast. It’s a brilliant choice if you’ve ticked off many of the classic Alpine and Mediterranean hits and want something that feels genuinely different.

It does, however, ask a bit more of you than a neatly signposted European route. Outside the main towns, the riding can be wonderfully quiet, but road conditions vary, and drivers can be brisk on busier highways. Go in with a flexible mindset, keep your wits about you, and you’ll be rewarded with proper adventure!

Where to ride

For the most peaceful riding, get out of Yerevan and aim for Armenia’s quieter regions. The north is a strong starting point, with lush valleys and dramatic gorge roads (the Debed Canyon area is incredibly scenic!).

Like neighbouring Georgia, the best places for cycling are usually outside the busy cities, where you can expect fewer cars and peaceful landscapes.

Interested in cycling in Armenia? We have a Georgia to Armenia cycling itinerary, designed by Epic Road Rides Community Contributor Isobel Duxfield (though note the route was ridden in 2025 – and there are now travel advisories in places for Armenia).
