Why cycle in Georgia?
Georgia serves up the kind of Caucasus scenery that keeps you grinning between breaths: think pine-dark ridgelines, steep-cut valleys and hilltop monasteries!
It also feels refreshingly different to the usual European riding circuit. Riders can expect fewer familiar cycling comforts and more adventure. This is a destination that best suits riders with solid experience and confidence, particularly around bigger cities like Tbilisi, where traffic can be fast and heavy.
Where to ride
Top tip! For the calmest, most enjoyable riding, get out of the cities as quickly as you can. Once you’re beyond Tbilisi’s fringes, the roads start to feel a lot quieter and far more scenic!
A simple, rewarding plan is to base yourself in Tbilisi for culture and logistics, then ride out towards Gori before peeling onto backroads into the hills. From there, the Caucasus really turns it on, and you can enjoy long climbs, sweeping descents and villages that feel a world away from the capital.
