Why does Epic Road Rides exist?
Clare Dewey created Epic Road Rides in 2018, due to a simple frustration: it was too difficult to find trustworthy, cyclist-first information for planning a great bike trip:
“I wanted to help people answer questions like:
- Where should I go on my next cycling trip?
- What routes should I ride?
- Where’s the best place to stay?
- Should I take my bike or hire one?
- How can I fit cycling into a holiday with non-cyclists?
I created Epic Road Rides so cyclists could find all this information in one place.”

Today our mission remains the same as it was on day 1: to make it easier for cyclists to enjoy brilliant cycling holidays by providing trustworthy, detailed and inspiring cycling travel content.
We want to be your first port of call when you’re thinking about a cycle trip.

Our content is carefully created by cyclists, based on real riding experience and first-hand destination knowledge. We share the details we know cyclists need to plan a trip. No generic “top 10” lists here!
We publish carefully researched cycling travel guides covering:

- practical logistics and local knowledge

What makes Epic Road Rides different from other cycling and travel sites?
- We have one overriding rule: Is this something we’d tell our best cycling buddy about?
- We are impartial. We aren’t a tour company, so we don’t have trips to sell. We take great care in finding and telling you about routes to ride in the most amazing places worldwide. That is our priority and it’s why we’re a great place to start if you’re not sure where you want to go. Once you have decided, you can trust us to give you a truthful, cyclist’s opinion on rides, accommodation and everything else you need.
- We are honest. Not just when describing places we’ve visited ourselves, but we also make it clear when we are interviewing a third party and/or our content is sponsored or paid for.
- We love detail. Our aim is to give you the full picture so you don’t have to waste your time on research and route planning.
- We are all about cycling. We know what cyclists want!

It’s all about what epic means to you!
We know that our readers love different kinds of riding and different experiences. After all, an epic ride for one person is not necessarily an epic ride for someone else!
This is always at the forefront of our minds when writing. For example, within our team we all love something different cycling. I love multi-day cycling tours and family focused trips, Ellie is a hardcore, lycra-clad road cyclist, Bas loves gravel and ultra cycling, while Kate is happy on pretty much whatever kind of bike or tour you offer her!
Epic Road Rides covers this spectrum and ability: you’ll find everything from 20 kilometre coffee runs to century rides with thousands of metres of climbing.
