Leander Borg

Leander was born in 1972 in Swakopmund, Namibia, where his family has lived for over a century.

He studied law at Stellenbosch University in South Africa before moving to Munich for two years. A serendipitous opportunity led him into the tourism industry, where he spent five years working in South Africa. In 2001, he returned to Namibia to join NatureFriend Safaris. Now fully privately owned, NatureFriend Safaris and its subsidiaries employ more than 60 staff, thanks to Leander gradually acquiring the shares from the original partners.

Leander has always had a strong sense of adventure and a passion for exploring remote places. He discovered cycling later in life and has since travelled extensively across Namibia—on foot and by bicycle—often venturing into little-known regions. From trekking across the Namibian dune desert and cycling dry riverbeds to climbing the Brandberg multiple times, he is always curious about what lies beyond the next corner.

While the company specialises in tailor-made high-end safaris—both self-drive and guided lodge-to-lodge experiences—Leander’s enthusiasm has also helped shape a growing portfolio of off-the-beaten-track cycling and hiking safaris, which remain close to his heart.
